Performance-based wind-induced structural and envelope damage assessment of engineered buildings through nonlinear dynamic analysis

Performance-based wind engineering (PBWE) is undergoing a period of rapid development with numerous procedures and frameworks being proposed over the past few years. Notwithstanding these advancements, there still knowledge gap concerning relative severity, dependency rate occurrence structural envelope damage in extreme events. This work focused on investigating this problem for engineered buildings. In particular, estimated through recently introduced PBWE framework that explicitly includes effects demands originating from dynamic net pressure responses. Structural both fragility analysis as well material yielding/hysteresis modeled adoption nonlinear fiber-based finite element formulation. responses include large deformations solving model corotational environment. To investigate severity between damages, carefully calibrated archetype 45-story steel building located Miami, FL, subject to hurricane winds studied. Probabilistic metrics are systems subsequently discussed terms rates behavior.
